WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR ARRANGING MAKE-UP LESSONS?

We understand that sometimes your child needs to miss a lesson due to illness or personal reasons.  We are pleased to provide two make up classes per term to those students with the following conditions:

  • Makeup classes can be organized through our Customer Portal HERE using your unique log-in details

  • Makeup classes offered subject to availability

  • Notification of missed classes must occur at least 2hrs before your child's lesson time. This is best done through our customer portal.

  • Makeup lessons must be completed within the same term and cannot be carried into next term.

  • Makeup lessons cannot be exchanged for cash refunds or credits towards next-term fees

  • If you do not notify us that a lesson or makeup lesson was not going to be attended you will forfeit the lesson

WHAT IS THE COST OF SWIMMING LESSONS?

  • Swimming lessons are $23 per lesson and bookings are made for the duration of the school term.

  • No classes are held on public holidays. Class fees reflect that there is no swimming on public holidays.

  • Students typically attend one class per week, however attending additional classes is great for improvement

  • We run intensive holiday programs which are booked separately

DOES MY BOOKING STAY IN PLACE FROM TERM TO TERM?

Yes, unless our team is notified of cancellation for the next term the booking will remain in place.

WHAT IF MY CHILD DOESN’T LIKE SWIMMING?

Swimming is a life saving skill that is essential in Australia, being surrounded by water, so it's important to help your child to understand that swimming is a skill that must be learned. Approach swimming lessons with a sense of fun and enjoyment, and talk about the fun things they will do in the class. Give lot's of pool side encouragement during the lessons, lots of 'good jobs' and thumbs will help. Confidence is the key.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY CHILD COME TO SWIMMING?

Coming to swimming lessons once a week, on a year round basis, is great for swimmer progress. If it is possible to get your swimmer in the water twice a week we will see even more rapid improvements. However there is a learning curve with lessons so do not expect your child to make equal and constant progress at each lesson.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO A LESSON?

Swimming caps are compulsory & goggles are recommended.  We have all the other equipment required on site.  Please bring your own towel to dry off post lesson and warm clothes to get dressed. Footwear is highly recommended entering and leaving the facility.

ARE SWIMMING PRODUCTS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE?

Yes, we have a full range of Engine (www.engineswim.com) products, flotation belts and swim nappies available for purchase.

HOW WARM IS YOUR POOL?

The pool temperature is 30 degrees for all week day lessons. The pool is increased to 32 degrees for Weekend classes.

CAN I SIGN UP MID TERM?

Enrolments are taken at any time throughout the term and term fees are prorated.  Each child is treated as an individual therefore no matter when they enrol they will be taught based on their own ability.

CAN WE PLAY IN THE POOL BEFORE OR AFTER THE CLASS?

Due to safety, play is not available in our facility before or after our classes. We strongly encourage play to be undertaken at either a public pool or an alternate private pool. It is important for the child to distinguish between learning time and playtime.

WILL I NEED TO GET IN THE WATER FOR WHITE FIN CLASSES (PARENT AND CHILD)?

Yes. We encourage parents to remain in the water for as long as possible for a range of reasons.

1.Safety – Children under the age of 4 who cannot swim are particularly vulnerable. Having a parent in the water ensures safety during the class.

2.More Practice – means more improvement. One on one learning beats waiting for turns and increased activity in the water. This has proven highly successful in our program.

3.Parental Learning – Many parents learn more about how to teach and spend active time with their child in the water, improving their ability to guide their children outside of lessons.

WHAT IS THE PARENT / GUARDIANS’ ROLE DURING THE LESSON?

Your role is to support your child during the lesson to maximise their learning experience. While some lessons can become noisy and overwhelming, it is important to keep calm, listen to your instructor and participate within the group.

I AM NERVOUS ABOUT MY CHILD STARTING LESSONS, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Any personal fear or anxiety you may have about the water can be easily transferred to your child. Try to be supportive and positive at all times with your child. Inform reception and the instructor privately about your concern and they will support you through your child’s lessons.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP MY CHILD LEARN TO SWIM?

Encourage your child to attend every lesson. Acknowledge all successes and ignore failures; have a positive approach.

MY CHILD HAS PLATEAUED

It is a normal part of learning to plateau and to not see significant improvements for some part of your child's swimming learning career. These plateaus are usually followed by periods of intense skill acquisition, where the child swims out of their skin, so it is a case of ebbs and flows. Don't pressure your child at this stage, remain calm and happy and keep coming to your regular lesson, it will soon pass.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO THE INSTRUCTORS HAVE?

All Instructors have an industry-recognized ‘Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety’ accreditation and have completed comprehensive in-house training and hold a CPR accreditation prior to becoming a Swim Instructor.

Many of our instructors also hold higher levels of teaching and water safety qualifications.

All instructors and coaches must undertake regular in-house training throughout the year.

DO THE INSTRUCTORS HAVE VALID WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK?

All Instructors are appropriately screened and must hold a valid Working with Children Check prior to employment. The status of an instructors working with children card is regularly checked and validated through the Victorian Government’s Working with Children Check system.

HOW DO I JOIN SQUAD?

Please advise our team of your interest in joining squad and we will assist you in selecting the best options. This is likely to involve an assessment of swimming ability.
